Power & Operations

The power source of the desalinator and the skills or manpower required to operate the unit are two critical factors in choosing an RO desalination system. That is why Dolphin Desalinators has such a large focus on these two factors when designing and fine tuning the range of units we manufacture.

Power

The Dolphin Desalinator Mini range runs from standard 240V single phase power. Extras such as Automatic Flush systems for this range have the option of 240v single phase or 415V 3 phase operation.

Portable Gen Set Option

240v single phase is the standard on the larger Midi and Maxi range, however your system design can also incorporate suitable portable gen sets or be designed to complement your current gen set or power supply.

The Maxi range also offers a model that requires no power supply and is run by a diesel engine. This is ideal for extremely remote applications where simplicity of design and operation is vital.

Operation

All Dolphin Desalinators are designed to be easily operated by users of all skill levels. All models come with full installation, operation and maintenance manuals however the functions of the electronic control box differ between Basic, Semi Automatic and Fully Automatic models.

  • Basic: Require the most manual input in the operation of the unit. The feed pump needs to be manually started and the desalinator is manually started up, the flows and salinity are manually checked, and flushing / backwashing of the system and cleaning are all done manually by the user. These tasks are fully explained in the manual provided. These systems are ideal for those with a little more time to attend to their desalination.
  • Semi Automatic: A step up from the basic models and include flow meters and salinity monitors to monitor the operation of the unit. It will automatically shut down when the feed pressure is either too high or too low and will measure the salinity of the permeate water. Start up of the feed pump and the desalinator, fresh water flush / backwashing and cleaning are all still required to be done manually. The option of adding an automatic flush system is available on these models.
  • Fully Automatic: Have the most automated features in the operation of the desalinator. This includes automatic operation of the feed pump from the control box, flow meters, salinity monitors, and an automatic flush system. Start up and cleaning are still required to be done manually. Start up simply involves pressing the start and run button on the control box.

A further automation available that is offered as an extra to some designs is automatic startup and shut down. This is achieved by float switches in the storage tank that switch the system on when the tank reaches its minimum capacity and off when it reaches maximum capacity.

Other fully automatic operations are available such as automatic chlorine dosing that automatic injects a predetermined amount of chlorine into the permeate as it enters the storage tank to prevent bacteria inhabiting the water while being stored.

Cleaning

All desalinators require manual cleaning operation as chemicals cannot be stored on-board for automatic operation.
